If you come to Gyeongju, Korea's oldest cultural heritage city, we recommend traditional temple food. “Yeonhwabaru” is an old Buddhist temple food restaurant in Gyeongju. It looks like a traditional Korean house and all food is vegan. The lunch and dinner course set menus feature a variety of temple delicacies at reasonable prices.

Vegetable jeon (Korean pizza), a representative temple food. Included in course meal.

When you order Korea's signature dish, bibimbap, it comes with soybean paste stew and delicious side dishes.

Bulguksa Temple

  • Address: Bulguksa Temple, 385 Bulguk-ro, Gyeongju-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do
  • Phone number: 054-746-9913

Bulguksa Temple is a representative Buddhist temple in Gyeongju and is one of the most famous cultural sites in the country. This temple was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its architecture from the Shilla Dynasty. Bulguksa Temple, along with Seokguram Grotto, is one of the representative places that Korean students often visit during picnics or field trips. However, the scale has decreased compared to the heyday due to the traces of time, but the perfection and beauty of the elaborate composition still remain in it. As of 2023, the adult admission fee for Bulguksa Temple is 6,000 won, and card payments are accepted.

In front of Daeungjeon, one of the representative buildings of Bulguksa Temple, there are Seokgatap and Dabotap, national treasures.

alt
The park next to the Bulguksa ticket office is famous for being one of the biggest cherry blossom spots in Korea. Visit during the cherry blossom season, from late March to early April, for a truly beautiful view. Cherry blossoms spread over a large area in this park, giving it a feeling of being in the Buddhist Pure Land. It's a really cool space, so I recommend you to visit it!

Cheomseongdae

  • Address: 839-1 Inwang-dong, Gyeongju-si, Gyeongbuk

Cheomseongdae is one of the places you must visit if you are visiting Gyeongju. Cheomseongdae is National Treasure No. 31 as an astronomical observatory from the Shilla Dynasty. This is the world's oldest astronomical observatory, and it is a cultural property that has been preserved as it was at the time, not restored by later generations. Admission to the park where Cheomseongdae is located is free. It is especially beautiful when illuminated at sunset and at night.

alt
When the sun goes down, Cheomseongdae is even more beautiful with the pine trees and the sunset in the background.

alt
The night view of Wolseong Moat near Cheomseongdae is also beautiful. Wolseong Haat, which has a subtle and serene feeling, is great for a walk as you can feel the tranquil atmosphere if you visit at night.

If you have time, don't forget to visit Donggung Palace and Woljido, located 1km away from Cheomseongdae, as they are famous for their beautiful night view.
